History
The Pattaya Backgammon League has been around since the early 1990’s, first organized by Goran Hasselquist until 2002 when he returned to Switzerland with his family.  Since then there have been a few shifts as to organizers. Guy Michelet (France), Karsten Nielsen (Sweden) and Gerhard Schulze (2x’s) (Germany) organized the Christmas Tournament and Thailand Open. 
For these yearly events, many players from nearly every corner of the Earth have participated with World Champions among them. Last year, Masayuki Mochizuki aka “Mochy” (Japan) the 34th World Champion of Backgammon in 2009, graced our league with his participation. Not only did Mochy compete in events we held where the entry fees were considerably less than in Europe but offered free advice and help in the actual organizing of the tournaments.  Other World Champions to play in the Thailand Open include Jorgen Grandstedt (Sweden) and Philip Marmorstein (Germany).  Other players of note to enter out events are Jake Jacobs (U.S.A./Singapore) (also part time organizer), Paul Weaver (U.S.A) (author and theoretician) and Phil Laak (Ireland) (poker celebrity).

Tournament Information
Around the middle of 2009, the Pattaya Backgammon League (PBL) started a weekly tournament held at Somboons Restaurant on Dong Tarn Beach, Jomtien about 500 meters walk off the main road called Thappraya, turning right at the police box and 7/11. For those of the earlier members who played at Styles Restaurant trying to find us again, keep walking down the beach past Styles for about 5 minutes, towards Pattaya Park.  On the main page there is a list of winners each week and the field size. There is also a list of past Thailand Open winners. If the names or events are highlighted you can click to see the gallery pictures from that event.  If you have any old photos, the PBL would be thankful if you sent us a copy to publish on the site. 

Christmas and Thailand Open
Details of the 2010 Christmas Tournament and 16th Thailand Open 2011 will be made available in the coming month.
